Your hosts Willy van Kemenade and Cathie Hagenson invite you to join them on another European Bike and Barge adventure. Our Germany tour follows three rivers, the Main, the Rhine and Moselle. We will experience towns with historical attractions and scenic vineyards. We pass the Loreley on the narrowest part of the Rhine Valley which is lined with castles. Finally, we follow the Moselle River to our final destination in Cochem, famous for its cozy streets and 11th-century hill-top castle, Reichsburg....Beautiful scenery on this trip.
Day 1: Saturday - June 10, 2017 – Miltenberg – Tour introduction, town walk in this typical German village with many cross-timbered houses. Local wines can be tasted in the oldest inn in Germany, “den Riesen”.
Day 2: Sunday – June 11, 2017 - Miltenberg - Aschaffenburg (40 km) – Today we cycle through several small villages famous for their fine red wines. Johannisburg Palace, the grandest of all Renaissance palace complexes is the first thing you will see as you enter Aschaffenburg.
Day 3: Monday – June 12, 2017 - Aschaffenburg – Frankfurt-am-Main (45 km) – Along with other villages and after crossing the River Main on a small ferry we arrive at the romantic city of Seligenstadt. We continue to Hanau (where the famous Grimm Brothers were born) and continue to Frankfurt-am-Main.
Day 4: Tuesday – June 13, 2017 - Frankfurt-am-Main – Mainz (45 km) – Today’s destination is Mainz. We will have time to explore this interesting city filled with spacious plazas and a charming atmosphere.
Day 5: Wednesday – June 14, 2017 - Mainz - Rüdesheim / Bingen (35/50 km) – After cycling through rolling vineyards and villages we arrive in Rüdesheim where there is opportunity to visit the half-timbered town of Eltville and monastery Eberbach which are definitely worth seeing (+14 km).
Day 6: Thursday – June 15, 2017 - Rüdesheim / Bingen – Koblenz (40 km) – During breakfast we sail past the Loreley, the narrowest part of the Rhine Valley. We cycle to the city of Boppard before reaching the oldest preserved Roman Fort walls north of the alps. We continue to the beautiful city of Koblenz, where the Rhine & the Mosel rivers meet.
Day 7: Friday – June 16, 2017 - Koblenz – Cochem (40 km) – After sailing to Alken, the biking begins enroute to Moselkern. Then we will bike into the Eltztal to visit the castle Eltz. We continue to Cochem with it’s cozy streets and famous 11th-century castle Reichsburg.
Day 8: Saturday – June 17, 2017 – After breakfast our tour ends and we depart for home or other destinations.
Skill Level - This guided bike and boat tour is rated as easy, with average daily distances between 40 - 45 km. The route is along mostly quiet bike paths and country roads. Itinerary subject to change based on local conditions.

Our Barge - Iris (24 passengers) – Comfort Plus Class
Our barge, the Iris was put to sea in April 2005. The Iris is a refitted freight barge that accommodates 24 overnight passengers. The interior of the Iris is fresh, tasteful and comfortable. The Iris has two decks. On the top deck you find the salon, a roomy a cozy bar and a sun deck. The whole barge has central heating and air-conditioning. Below, the Iris has 12 spacious, comfortable guest cabins for two (no bunk beds) and each cabin has a private bathroom with a shower, sink and toilet. Hair dryers are available on board. Wi-Fi is available on board but cannot be guaranteed in all locations.
